What Boolean Search actually is

Boolean Search is a method of combining keywords with operators (AND, OR, NOT, quotation marks, parentheses) to make your searches on LinkedIn, Google or any database dramatically more precise.

Instead of searching for "sales manager" and getting 50,000 results, you search for: "sales manager" AND (SaaS OR "software") AND Mexico AND ("enterprise" OR "B2B") NOT "intern" and get 200 relevant results.

The 5 operators every recruiter needs to know

AND — narrows the search

Requires both terms to appear: "country manager" AND Mexico — only profiles that mention both.

OR — expands the search

Accepts either term: "sales director" OR "commercial director" — profiles with either title.

NOT — excludes terms

Quotation marks — exact phrase
