Job Requisition

The document that should exist before any opening is posted, and almost never formally does.

What it includes

A complete requisition defines the role, the salary budget, the competency profile, the real urgency, and who approves the final hire. It sounds bureaucratic, but it prevents weeks of chasing a moving target.

Why this step gets skipped

On small teams or under real urgency, it is tempting to jump straight from we need someone to posting the role. The problem shows up two weeks later, when the hiring manager rejects candidates for reasons that were never written down.

The cost of not having one

Without a clear requisition, the recruiter works against a moving target: the profile shifts depending on who you ask, and the process drags because every rejection means re-guessing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not necessarily on paper, but it does need to exist in writing somewhere accessible, even inside the ATS.
The hiring manager with help from the recruiter, in an intake meeting, not the recruiter guessing alone.
It can be adjusted, but each change should be documented so the whole team knows, not just the recruiter who heard about it.
